PROPERTY MECHANIC/SECURITY/GARDENER JOB DESCRIPTION

LOCATION: Ndola, Zambia. REPORTS TO: Campus Assitant STATUS: Full-time    BENEFITS: Yes

WORKS CLOSELY WITH: Director of Operation and Campus Assisant

POSITION PURPOSE: The primary roles of the Property Mechanic/Guard are to ensure grounds are safe, secure and pleasant – both visually and operatively. The mechanic/guard is responsible for maintaining property landscaping, grounds upkeep, gardens, pool cleaning and maintenance. This includes the care, upkeep, maintenance and repairs of all equipment in a proper fashion. Additionally, this role serves to keep the grounds safe and secure, and eliminate risk of danger to girls, babies, visitors, volunteers and staff alike.  This position will be expected to work alongside and collaborate with other staff in the department.  The Property Mechanic/Guard will exhibit a passion for the mission of Kharis House and the Gospel-centered care that Kharis House aims at bringing to the children we serve as we strive to be a campus of excellence.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

Communication

  • Attend all relevant staff meetings.

  • Cooperate with other team members to ensure duties are fulfilled.

  • Provide guidance to management regarding matters related to the grounds. 

  • Provide clear and detailed information as to the proper schedule and upkeep of all equipment.

  • Maintain confidentiality and sensitivity of both the Kharis House location as well as cases and details of girls and babies.

  • Quickly report any and all emergencies to supervisor.

Grounds Management

  • Maintain site landscaping, included but not limited to the following: Watering the lawn (grass), flowers, and shrubs,maintaining gardens.

  • Trimming and maintaining trees, hedges, and shrubs,

  • Preventing and eliminating weeds.

  • Operating and maintaining hand tools efficiently.

  • Maintain the swimming pools and ensure pool cleanliness at all times.

  • Keep grounds free from trash, litter, and debris; manage waste removal system by emptying trash bins as needed. 

  • Plant and maintain vegetable gardens as well as any new landscaping needs.

  • Take proper care of tools and equipment.

 Security

  • Manage and watch houses, office and front gate, ensuring appropriate and secure access of non-residents.

  • Patrol property frequently to monitor for risks to security and report any risks to supervisor immediately.

  • Monitoring property lighting and report lighting outages to supervisor.

  • Inspect and ensure security of building exterior, property perimeter, and property access points. 

  • Ensure a physically safe environment for our girls, babies, and staff.

Mechanic/Equipment

  • Manage KH Vehicle fleet, including maintenance, repairs, diagnostics.

  • Manage pool equipment, including maintenance, repairs, diagnostics.

  • Manage KH Gensets, including maintenance, repairs, diagnostics, and schedule.

  • Manage any and all mechanical equipment, existing and future engines, motors, etc on the campus.

Other

  • Demonstrate commitment to Kharis House mission, vision, and values .

  • Take proper care of uniforms and equipment issued to you.

  • Share knowledge and experience. 

  • Passion for equipping and empowering the vulnerable and traumatized girls.

  • Actively work towards continuing personal learning and development and apply newly acquired skills. 

  • Consistently approach work with energy and positive constructive attitude. 

  • Remain calm, in control, and good humored even under pressure. 

  • Ability to multi-task and competently manage several projects at one time.  

  • Adhere to all deadlines.

  • Irregular work shifts. 

  • Uniform/shoes/boots will only be worn for Kharis House activities.

Academic and Professional Requirements

  • Must have a Valid drivers license and the ability to drive a manual transmission vehicle with excellence.

  • Limited to Fluent English proficiency.  

  • Ability to meet health and physical requirements of the position. 

  • Must live in Ndola, Zambia.

  • Will be required to provide proof of Diplomas or Certificates showing mechanical abilities and qualifications.

The Employee shall also be expected to undertake any responsibilities as may be delegated by his or her supervisor.
