HOUSE MENTOR JOB DESCRIPTION

LOCATION: Ndola, Zambia. REPORTS TO: ADMINISTRATION TEAM STATUS: Full-time    BENEFITS: Yes

POSITION PURPOSE: The House Mentor MUST BE FEMALE AND A CURRENT RESIDENT OF NDOLA. She is responsible for providing mentorship, holistic care and supervision to the residents who live in Kharis House (KH). The House Mentor plays an active role in training the young pregnant teens (YPT) and young mothers in our home with appropriate grace-based love, discipline and home organization. The House Mentor understands it is her duty to place the welfare and safety of all residents in the house as utmost priority. The House Mentor serves as a role model for the residents who are learning to embrace motherhood themselves.

THE HOUSE MENTOR MUST EMBRACE AND LIVE BY KHARIS HOUSE STATEMENT OF FAITH AND CORE VALUES.

Specific Tasks  

  • Walk daily with YPT and Young mothers helping to mentor and train them into Godly young moms.

  • Care for and teach babies while mothers attend school.

  • Attend all relevant staff meetings.

  • Communicate information to residents as needed.

  • Ensure residents keep time for all appointments and daily routines.

  • Ensure a stable home environment for the residents..

  • Maintain confidentiality and sensitivity of cases and details of residents.

Home Management 

  • Manage inventory in homes and mentor residents how to properly care for home and all home items.

  • Manage food items within the home and adhere to the menu.

  • Report all maintenance and repair needs in a timely manner.

  • Ensure residence and grounds are in good working order and are kept clean and neat.

Discipline, Character-Building, and Spiritual Formation     

  • Demonstrate a grace based approach to discipline, mentoring, discipling in ALL instances.

  • Lead, learn from and ensure residents are having quiet times, devotions, church, prayer time, and other spiritual disciplines among the girls through grace based words and actions. 

  • Assist with conflict resolution in the house, when needed.

  • Implement all relevant Kharis House parenting training materials.  

  • Oversee home dynamics and work to ensure a safe and stable home environment for all of the children.

Parenting Skills and Home Management Training 

  • Mentor to residents proper procedures for living in a house, using and caring for items within the house and campus.

  • mentor to residents how to properly wash, pack, and wear clothing on a daily basis.

  • Mentor to residents proper behaviors for living in a home with other residents and with adults.

  • Mentor to residents food preparation skills in the kitchen.

  • Train residents in mothering skills; i.e. diapering, feeding, burping, baby development, play, caring for sick residents, etc.

  • Assist residents with middle-of-the-night feedings with residents, when needed.

  • Care for babies when the young moms are in school, sessions or appointments.

  • Assist residents in schoolwork as needed.

The Employee shall also be expected to undertake any other responsibilities as may be delegated by his or her supervisor.

  • Demonstrates ability to foster and maintain appropriate and engaging relationships with children.  

Academic and Professional Requirements: 

  • MUST HAVE BQCC Certificate

  • Certificate in Psychosocial Counseling, or another related field.                          

  • Ability to meet health and physical requirements of the position.  

  • Fluent English proficiency. 

  • Must be focused and self-motivated. 

  • Be someone who promotes unity, integrity, honesty, and accountability at all levels within KH.

  • The ability to exercise with the girls, play and sit on the ground as well as participate in extracurricular activities.

  • The ability to be flexible.

  • The ability to cook different varieties of food.

  • Ability to respect and value supervision.
